About HouseLive

Live Minutes and Live Captions are unofficial draft records sourced from Parliament's live feeds. They should not be treated as authoritative. Always refer to the official Hansard and Votes and Proceedings for the official record.

HouseLive provides live access to Australian House of Representatives proceedings during sitting days – the draft live minutes and live closed captions from Parliament's broadcast, displayed side-by-side for both the House and the Federation Chamber.

Live Minutes

Displays the official draft live minutes published by the Department of the House of Representatives during sitting days. These are the same draft minutes available on the APH website, reformatted for easier reading.

  • Updated automatically during sitting hours
  • Supports both House of Representatives and Federation Chamber

Live Captions

Captures closed captions from Parliament's own live video broadcast for both the House of Representatives and Federation Chamber. These are AI-generated captions produced by Parliament's broadcasting service – not generated by HouseLive.

  • Captions sourced from Parliament's ParlView broadcast stream
  • Speaker changes detected via colour coding in the broadcast captions
  • Both House and Federation Chamber tracked independently

Use of AI

HouseLive uses AI (Anthropic Claude) only for Question Time navigation: during QT, AI locates where each minutes-listed question starts in the live captions so question markers can be shown in the transcript.

AI is not used to generate or modify any of the minutes or caption content. The live captions themselves are AI-generated by Parliament's own broadcasting service (ParlView), not by HouseLive.

Limitations

  • Minutes are draft records and may differ from the final Votes and Proceedings
  • Captions are AI-generated by Parliament's broadcasting service and may contain errors or miss words
  • Speaker identification in captions is based on colour coding, not names, and is not always accurate
  • Question Time placement is experimental and may be inaccurate
  • There may be gaps during sitting breaks, adjournments, or service interruptions
  • Data is sourced from publicly available APH systems which may change without notice
